Way To Go, Bill!
"They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk:
Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.
And then I heard the father talk.
Everybody knows it's important to speak English
except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor
with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.
In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.
The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.
These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what ? ?
And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.
I am talking about these people who cry w hen their son is standing there in an orange suit.
Where were you when he was 2 ? ?
Where were you when he was 12 ? ?
Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol ? ?
< /SPAN>And where is the father ? ? Or who is his father ?
People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?
People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something ?
Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up ?
Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?
What part of Africa did this come from??
We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .
With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail.
Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.
We have got to take the neighborhood back.
People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.
We have millionaire football players who cannot read.
We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.
We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.
We cannot blame the white people any longer."
WAY TO GO, BILL !!
It's NOT about color...
It's about behavior!!!
PASS THIS ON AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And when Bill points out the obvious, he's trashed by the so-called civil rights leaders of our day.
Ugh
you beat me to it girl!..now I dont have to post it..haha
Ain't that the truth! The left has convinced them their victims, which equals an excuse to not try.
I dunno...a lot of what he's saying is true, but his approach is off. A lot of African-Americans who speak in Ebonics and work at Wal-Mart don't do it because they're lazy. They do it because they don't have another way out. It smacks of elitism for Bill Cosby, a wealthy African-American embraced by white America, to throw stones at poor African-Americans living in ghettos.
Again, I'm not saying he's wrong. I just think it's more complex than "pull your pants up, speak proper English, and go to college." Kind of like telling the homeless to get a job.
I don't think Bill Cosby was born weathy and I'm pretty sure he wasn't born educated. I don't see how it is elitism to say what he does. It seems to me he is giving good advice and not throwing stones. But that's just me.
Mr. Cosby has spoken extensively about his childhood in his monologues. And he grew up in the "ghetto", he worked for everything he has, he is proof that a decision to excel is NOT based on color but on character.
Go talk to Dr. Ben Carson, his father abandoned his Mother when he and his brother were young. His Mother had a 3rd grade education, BUT she has character. Her determination caused her sons to value education and reading, and look where Dr. Carson is today. He is one of the top neurosurgeons in the world...hello?
There are adult education courses, there are libraries, you can learn, but YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO LEARN! You can take a horse to water but you can't force him to drink!
And if the parents/parent doesn't care...why should the child?
Are the schools trashed and run down? Why? Is it the lack of respect that schools have in a community? Is it because the "students" are marking time until they can get out and do their own thing?
Washington DC is an interesting case, the time and amount of money that welfare paid out was limited, so what happened? People got jobs AND quit haveing babies willy-nilly! They started to take responsibility for their lives, now the 'ghettos' are getting smaller! "Projects" are mostly abandoned, and people are getting their sef-respect and dignity back!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

I'm glad someone is saying this. This goes for people of any ethnicity! Primary and secondary education are free in this country, as are libraries and public television. There are a lot of opportunities to learn that have little to do with your income.
I have always liked Bill's philosophy. Even in his humor there is a point. He is a well educated man who happens to be black. More people should listen to what he says. He is right on the point!
It's not a color thing - it's a socio-economic thing. If you disagree, please go to any piss-poor white town in Pennsylvania.

I think Cosby is talking about the disdain of education that too many blacks hold for a variety of reasons, mostly stemming from the liberal-induced sense of entitlement.
I respect Mr. Cosby's views and I do agree with many of his points. All I know is that I want my kids to get the best education possible - and will do everything in my power to make that possible, but the kids do need to have the drive as well to succeed.
