Google Party Plane

From the Wall Street Journal online comes this story about Google Inc. founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, and the lawsuits surrounding the conversion of a used Boeing 767 widebody into an unusually large private party jet.

The 767-200 typically carries 180 passengers and is three times as heavy as a conventional executive plane, but hey, I guess billionaires have lots of friends to cart around, right?

From the article it looks to me like these billionaires are reluctant to pay the contractor for the design renovations to their extravagant toy.

I didn't expect billionaires to be such cheapskates.

cube, "I didn't expect billionaires to be such cheapskates."

I thought that's how most billionaires became billionaires; they're cheapskates. Someone else always foots the bill, like you and me.

i was so thankful when we were poor enough to not accept enron stock as part of my husband's benefit package...of course, it wasn't until a couple of years later that we realized it.

decadence kills!

I know what you mean, but when you consider how much money these billionaires have, I would expect them to pay their bills. High end contractors cost high end money. So now they're going to pay more in legal fees AND the details of their pleasure plane are leaked. I don't get it.

cube for them it's all actuarial. They figure they can stiff more people and companies and still come out ahead, including legal fees etc., and they do unfortunately. It's like health insurance companies. They figure they can deny claims knowing that many people will just accept their verdicts, and besides they make it very cumbersome to fight, like putting you on hold for hours on end etc. It's all an actuarial game, blech.

i hate to sound pessimistic, but to be that wealthy i think a lot of slime gets spread around. Me? I feel guilty when the grocery store cashier accidentally gives me five cents too much in change. I'd make a lousy billionaire I'm afraid, I wouldn't sleep very well.

rgmb: I'm the same way and I sleep very well. I'm also not an
-aire, billion or otherwise... Hmmmm, maybe you do have a point ;-)

Just kidding. I'd rather be honest... although I wouldn't mind giving honest AND wealthy a try ;-)

BTW I've started using Metacrawler as an alternative search engine. Why should I continue to make these Google jerks popular?
