Sad End

Florida Boat Accident Survivor: 2 NFL Players Gave Up Hope, Third Tried To Swim To Safety

Everyone was hoping for a better outcome, but when the Coast Guard called off the search Tuesday evening, it didn't appear as though one was likely.

Still, the survivor's story is a sad one to read.

It IS a reminder that life is fragile even for the young and strong.

How awful for their people who care about them.

AWWWW. The media wants us to cry a river here.

Sorry. NOPE, NYADA.

I'm not buying this. Since when do bruthas go out in the middle of the gulf in a tiny boat in the middle of March winds to go FISHING?

Um, could this have been a DRUG RUN?

jan: Absolutely. I'm reminded of this every time my youngest has crew practice (I know there are people all around, but I still worry) and I'm reminded of this every time my eldest drives off in her truck.

Ananda girl: It's just awful. I can't imagine how they must feel.

Steve Harkonnen: I wasn't there, so I can't vouch for anything, but I do have neighbors who knew the owner of the boat and had gone fishing with him in that very boat.
It was something he did often because he liked to fish.

Life is very delicate.

God bless their families.

I always hate to hear about someone being lost at sea.

Lesson learned: don't go out in a small boat in March, completely unprepared. My heart goes out to their families.

Marquise Cooper was a fanatical fisherman who got the fever and was likely to turn out to be a lifelong fisherman. His zeal to get out before the bad weather Saturday, 2/28 was a bad call that resulted in the loss of his life and that of two of his friends.

There hasn't been a whiff of suspicion concerning any motive other than young athletes feeling bullet proof. Not atypical of men that age.

Just a damn shame when people underestimate the power of nature.

Pinky: I tell my girls that all the time, but they are full into the invincibility of youth. What's a mother to do but nag.

I do hope God grants their families peace.

Sue: It's a terrible end.

Pasadena CC: Absolutely. They were way out in the gulf in basically a fishing boat designed for the bay.

QQ: It's very sad for everyone who knew these young men.

Birdwoman: I agree. There will be many private boats and planes out looking for these men this weekend.
