TSA To Block "Controversial Opinion" On The Web

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against an employer restricting an employee's internet usage while on the job to work related sites, but who decides what is "controversial"?

For example, is the Drudge Report going to be considered a "controversial" site for employees at a liberal news organization?

I fear that this slope will prove to be a very slippery one. How close are we to the blocking of all sites that the TSA doesn't "agree" with? For the greater good, of course.

Yeah, right.

Thank you for being a great American

I hear through the grapevine that my web site was banned for a while at the Santa Monica Library in California.

And, of course, Jihad Watch is banned in Saudi Arabia.

Off now to read the link more thoroughly to see which sites the TSA wants to ban.

I'm still pouting over my blog being banned in China.

GOOD that you blogged this, Cube, it's SO SO SO IMPORTANT. The first step toward banning US, of course.

The Gov't is saying this has nothing to do with criticism of this administration but it's a good way to prevent terrorism: HERE WE GO...the first salvo.
KEEP BLOGGING! (just when I was getting a little weary of the fight, you know...we have to FIGHT and fight HARD but, as you saw at my site, we can't even be sure our votes will count anymore and that's all we've got to fight with at this point)

Slip sliding down the slope we go.

Walts World: Thank you for the kind words.

AlwaysOnWatch: I didn't know that, but it sounds very insidious to me. I think it may a matter of time.

Jan: I remember that... should we worry about worse censorship at home?

Z: I totally agree. Just when I feel like I've wasted enough time with this bloggin thing, I run across something like this article and it only serves to fuel my anger.

How dare they deign to decide what free speech is contoversial?

I said it years ago and it's still true today... the facist jackboot on your neck is more likely to come from the left than it is from the right.

Chuck: True. I'm frantically thinking of ways to stop the slide...

what a bloody joke the TSA is Cube..pfftttt!

WomanHonorThyself: They are a joke and unfortunately, the joke is on us.

I just read that TSA has recinded its new policy ...

TSA drops policy blocking 'controversial' sites

All it took was an uproar from conservative bloggers and free-speech activists.

Still, it's wise to keep our eyes on this administration because they definitely want to stifle the voices that disagree with their views.

Eyes open, people.

nObama rules the TSA, so you may only see his approved sites.

So they rescinded, did they? Could this have been a test bubble for net neutrality?

cube said...

Brooke: They say that it's been rescinded, but I think they're only dropping this approach and not their intent to control what we see and hear a la "Outer Limits".

It might be a trial balloon for net neutrality because we all know net neutrality = net control and they're all about control.

About Drudge? I know of no other site, liberal or conservative, that is as easy to read and useful.

Other alternatives people have mentioned include Huffington Post and Daily Best, but these pages are badly designed and jumbled up compared to Drudge.
