Library Liability

It sounds like something out of Seinfeld, but it's true: Library Book Returned 47 Years Overdue . Robert Nuranen paid $171.32 in library fines and cheesily blamed his mother's housekeeping for the loss.

And Stolen Library Book Leads To Shooting? . Police say a security guard at the Anderson County Library in South Carolina fired his gun at a car after the driver triggered a security alarm.

Where is Mr. Bookman when you need him?

What's a library security guard doing with a gun in the first place?

Why would you pay that much in fees? Return the book and leave.
Unless the security guard chases you down with a gun...

If you check out a book, it is your responsibility to either return it or pay for it.

Don't blame your mama unless you're a toddler.

This guy is after his 15 minutes of fame.

Wow, that's crazy. I'M a librarian and I can't see either of those things happening at MY library.

As for the really late return. We just want our books back. Most of the time we'll waive the fine (doesn't matter how much) if they just bring the book back.

And as for the security gaurd with a gun...WOAH! That's absolutely nuts. Only one of our security gaurds are qualified to carry but I can't ever see him using it for anything less than a patron also with a gun.

e.d.: Thanks for responding to this old post. I agree with you about the late returns. My local library only charges $2.00 in fines OR the price of the book, not this outrageous amount.

As far as guns go, as long as the guards know how to use them responsibly, then I have no problem with them carrying.

I'm pro-gun as long as the gun carriers know how to use them responsibly.
