Spoiled Brat Media
Thomas Sowell, one of my favorite writers, has produced a superb analysis of the firestorm that the White House press corps has manufactured around the Vice President's hunting accident.
The column appropriately titled Spoiled Brat Media is short, but straight to the point: "the media love to wrap themselves in the mantle of "the public's right to know" but there is no such dedication to that right when it goes against the journalists' own prejudices.
Sowell goes on to add, "the 'public's right to know' apparently extends only to such things as will not cause the public to reach conclusions different from those of the liberal media."
How true.
The press is throwing a petulant frenzy because they are slowly concluding that the world doesn't revolve around them or their liberal agenda. They are the ones in a snit about this, not the average American.

I heard a commentator this morning calling the accident a "peppering" you know, referring to the hundreds of little pellets of birdshot hitting the guy.
Apparently, this happens a lot when folks are out hunting game. Heart attack aside, it probably stung like the dickens, but it's not like Cheney shot him with a bazooka. It was just a peppering.
Sowell is an American treasure. One of... if not THE... smartest observers of our society ever. Thanks for the link to this story.
jessey: the owner of the ranch said, "he got peppered pretty good" (her words). Hunters who don't have a liberal political agenda will tell you that people do get "peppered" by bird shot.
In other words, Shoot Happens ;-)
darrell: Glad to help. I read his work all the time. I wish more people did.
eyesallaround: precisely. The media has colored the news their way for such a long time that they don't know how to just report the news anymore.
Here they are in a frenzy over the Cheney hunting accident while the Arab port deal is occurring without so much as a peep from them. I don't blame Cheney for disregarding the media jackals.
Tony Blakeney in the Wash. Times had a similar column that I posted on. See it here.
James @ Right Face!
Blankley is spot on. Thanks.
husband of birdwoman is a big sowell fan. Birdwoman only reads pulp. But I'll take John's word for it and agree that Sowell is a great one.

Though I hate the term liberal media or liberal agenda, I actually have to agree with you on this one. Too bad the media didn't have this voracity for the real concerning issues this administration has presented -- I did my best to keep that toned down out of respect for you, Cube. :)
"Frenzy" is the perfect term for what happened.
I hope that many Americans saw this and finally "get it."
Those people rabidly asking questions such as, "Will the VP have to resign over this?" are nuts.
sar: I appreciate it. It is possible for both sides to have an honest difference of opinion without resorting to name calling.
j.d.: I love the way Cheney doesn't let the media cow him into doing things their way.
