People are talking about the best Super Bowl commercials...
Of course there's the Magic Fridge, the Fedex dinosaur epic, the baby Clydesdale...
Which one made me jump up and do the Snoopy dance all over the living room?
Leonard Nimoy's Aleve commercial.
Live Long and Prosper.

Sadly, I was running around during my party too much to see most of the ads. I did see the magic fridge (very good) and the one with the doctor who kills the fly (also very good).
Funny how a company will pay $2 million+ for an ad like the latter ... but I don't even recall what it was for.
What was the FedEx ad? What did Nimoy do in the Aleve ad?

The Fedex ad was excellent. It is subtitled, and utilized a lot of CGI effects. It begins with a caveman tying a bone to a pterydactal. No sooner does it take off, than a T Rex eats it. The caveman goes back to his caveman boss & tells him the bad news. The boss fires him for not using Fedex. The caveman complains that Fedex hasn't been invented yet, but the boss doesn't care.
The unhappy caveman steps outside the cave & angrily kicks a tiny dinosaur. Suddenly a huge dino foot stomps him like something out of "Bambi Meets Godzilla". The End.
The Nimoy ad found him having arthritis pain & not being able to do the Vulcan salute at a Star Trek convention. Aleve saves the day, and the salute. No special effects here, just a simple hand gesture that said it all.
Watch the news, they've been replaying the ads all morning.
A little spock trivia:
The Live Long and Prosper that Nemoy is showing in your pic is actually a rabbinic blessing of the Hebrew letter Shin. Nemoy comes from the Cohen line of Judaism, they are the rabbi's of Israel, and Nemoy came up with the Live Long and Prosper, Shin, to mimic the Rabbi's blessing (that is how the rabbi's place their hands on a person's shoulder during a blessing apparently). The blessing is actually May God Grant you Peace and a Long Life (or something like that).
Just thought you might actually find that interesting...
Thanks, rgmb. I knew it had been derived from a Rabbinic blessing, but I didn't know more detail than that.
When I first saw Nimoy, I thought it would be a Priceline commercial! But I think it was my fav.
I also liked the airplane one with the woman who has to go to the bathroom and she gets caught on the seat in front of her and ends up in a guys lap! Very funny!!!
I don't know if you saw in my comments, I wrote that as soon as I saw that ad I thought of you! (And Dddragon).
My favorite were the Life Comes At You Quick ads (the fly killing and the airplane snag).
the only part of the super bowl I watched was the Rolling stones and then I was dissapointed.
Here in the Detroit area the event prior were hogging the stations also.
Commercials??? Aren't those those annoying things we spend the other 364 days fast-forwarding through on our TiVos?
We Americans are pretty weird, getting all excited about a commercial.
That sounds great! We don't watch sports, and the superbowl ads are all I really miss.
I'll have to look for that Aleve one...
Personally, I liked the "Addicted to LOST" spot.
Great blog by the way. Keep up the good work.
James @ Right Face!
I didn't see the ads. I did see part of the half time show.
I was so glad that Mick Jagger did not have a wardrobe malfunction.
I wish I had missed the Rolling Bones. I would've preferred a Motown-themed half-time show. A Detroit Super Bowl...Hello?
What's up for next year? Kanye West at Nashville?
I missed the Whopperettes commercial, but from what I hear, I didn't miss much. Come to think of it, Burger King commercials are often over the top & kind of creepy.
i was sort of busy this year, but I am such a Paul McCartney fan that my hasbnad called me in from the kitchen to see the commercial with a montage of him. i think it was for some investment group.
