Armed America

In light of the arguments being heard at the Supreme Court, I thought it would be
interesting to look at some armed Americans:

Armed America: Portraits Of Gun Owners In Their Homes a project by Kyle Cassidy who traveled 15,000 miles over two years photographing Americans in their homes with their guns.

I find it amazing that so many people are willing to allow this look into their private lives all for some dude writing a book.

Awesome find, Cube! I got lost on that site for quite awhile.

My hubby would have our Bersa Thunder .380 and .45, my S&W 642 in .38, and his Uberti .45 S/A.

:)

We're looking at saving our pennies for a stainless shotgun next.

Oops. I mean to say my hubby and I. *:]

Glad you liked the site.

I thought some of the entries were silly... I wouldn't be showing off a Raven Arms .25.

LOL!

The dude in the dreds and carbine was cool, though. :)

I learned years ago that photography has so very little to do with f-stops and shutter speeds and everything to do with being able to talk to people.

Especially in a series of portraits like this, being able to convince people that I would portray them honesty was far more important than any other single aspect of the photography.

Thanks for posting it.

Oooh, a controversial topic! I grew up with target shooting and reloading my own ammunition. I quietly promote the responsible ownership of guns. On the other hand, I do have a Raven but wouldn't be caught dead trying to pose with it!

I don't know how things are in Florida, but in AR owning guns is a BIG deal.
If a law against guns was passed here, people would take to the streets and protest like crazy.

kyle: Thanks for sharing your insight into photography.

ken albin: There you go. A Raven
is just a step away from the old one-shot Derringers saloon women carried in their stockings. The less said about them, the better.

j.d.: Florida is big on the second amendment too.

brooke: I don't think I've ever seen a stainless shotgun, but it sure sounds purdy.

Two things struck me immediately:

- that cat isn't showing off any guns

- can't imagine anyone will ever think to carry out a similar exercise with, say, 2000 random Iranians.

caz: The lack of long fingers and opposable thumbs doesn't portend well for cats overtaking humans on the shooting front.

You're right. We get enough video of random Iranians shooting weapons into the air with little or no provocation. We don't need a special book.

Cube,

I saw this project a year or two ago and found it fair and interesting. Too many media types turn what could be a fair topic for research into a caricature to promote their own biases. You know the drill:No one needs a semiauto, assault weapon, Blah Blah, etc...

The people shown are real people with as varied lives as one would expect in such a diverse and large country.

The fact is there is just no better way for people to defend themselves than with fire arms. You can't run far enough, hide well enough or talk fast enough to defend yourself in any way as well as one can with a firearm.

Qualifying that statement with regulations, restrictions, scorn, whatever is just more soviet type crap-the 2nd amendment was created so that the citezens could best defend themselves.

We were to be the first in history to be a society where the populace would have the right to bear arms for self defense. Hunting or militia purposes were secondary.

Any words to the contrary are B.S.: Read the words of the founders and it is clear they intended for us to be well armed with the most modern weapons to defend ourselves from tyrant and terror alike!

God I love this country!

Brooke: Remington and Mossberg do a stainless and Marinecote finish on their 870 and 500/590 models(respectively). I have both in blue and love them but the more weather resistant would work as well and resist rust better!
