Wordy Book

If people who love food and cooking shows are called 'foodies', then it follows that those who love words are called 'wordies'.

For all you wordies... you know who you are:

Reading the OED: One Man, One Year, 21,730 Pages by Ammon Shea

"From abluvion to zyxt - a year long account of reading the Oxford English Dictionary."

Zyxt sounds like a great word to use on Scrabble.

I'll keep my eyes open for this book.

I'm hearing the crickets chirping... I thought there'd be lots more wordies out there.

So... What's a zyxt?

I can't imagine retaining much of reading the OED. Yikes!

Y'know, my Grandma ALWAYS kicks my butt at Scrabble. I think she's cheating. ;)

on my blogroll. The Professor is a wordy's wordy.

brooke: zyxt is defined as:
(obsolete, Kentish) second-person singular past tense of to see.

***more cricket chirp***

This is a book I'd check out from the library because it's a fascinating read, but not something on which I'd like to blow much money.

brooke: That is so cool. Reminds me of my grandma who was sharp as a tack up until the end of her life. I still miss her.

dmarks: Thanks. I enjoy reading about other wordies.

woman: It was a logical progression.

papa frank: It's up to you, but
you know, you can be both like me.

I knew a guy in high school who was freaky smart.
He was a very odd person and did not have many friends. I befriended him, and he was hard to talk with. He was not very socially normal. I remember him telling me once that he enjoyed reading the dictionary in his spare time.
I've often wondered what became of him. I know he had the brains to make millions, but I wonder if he ever acquired better social skills...
Hmmm....
I'm a foodie and a wordie... but more of a foodie.

I read the dictionary, and I wish I had a better one, so I guess I'm a wordie.

I covet a dictionary my dad owns, which is HUGE. And, to add to it's appeal, not only does it have a zillion pages, but the print is very small. So small you have to read it with a magnifying lens. If there's only one thing he leaves me when he passes (may it be 100 years from now) I hope it's that dictionary. I love the lengthy etymologies in those big dictionaries.

I'll have to look for the book you mention.

Speaking of zyxt, the word I have to type to post this is zntznlfuf.
