Reid Cites "Legal Authority" To Bar Illinois Pick

Probably Reid has a valid legal point, but I find it a bit alarming to hear a senator on Meet The Press say, "We determine who sits in the Senate. And the House (of Representatives) determines who sits in the House. So there's clearly legal authority for us to do whatever we want to do. This goes back for generations."

In case you missed the scary part...

"So there's clearly legal authority for us to do whatever we want to do."

Oh yeah, who wouldn't want an omnipotent Harry, smiling creepily while he makes that statement.

What's scary is he's basically right. Not morally correct but it is how it is. They (the repubs & dems) pretty much pick out who will get the backing of the party. The voters play a small part.

What a great picture you found of him. Usually he looks so benign, which he is not.

Our elected officials really do believe they are part of the 'royal elite' and we -the US citizens -are their servants--it's time for an attitude change on their part---

It's always embarrassing when we are reminded that we have absolutely nothing to do with who becomes our elected leaders.

I'm looking forward to Reid barring entry of a black senator. I got the popcorn waiting.

Ah, more Democrat mayhem. Gotta love it and now Bill Richardson drops from the Obama wagon.

SWad thing is, until everyone votes and actually knows who they are voting for, we don't have a lot of say.

Balou is right, in most districts, the real selection is in who is chosen to run for the respective parties.

For once, Reid was telling the truth about his intentions.

Maybe it should be changed so that if a senator abandoned his seat, it stays empty until the next election.

Sounds like a good idea? The Senate would sure benefit. It would discourage Senators from running for President in the middle of their term, and doing what Obama and McCain did, which was to basically shirk their duty as Senators during the campaign.

it's obvious they do exactly as they choose - why does this cretin want to rub our noses in it?

I rather like that idea, Dmarks!

Nanc: Because he's THAT arrogant. He's 'in charge', and he wants us plebes to know it.

From what I'm hearing from the legal analysts, the senate can only refuse Burris' senate seat on the grounds of age, citizenship, or residency. None of these apply.
I think Burris will be the next senator from Illinois. Harry Reid will have to eat his words.
