Hmmmm?

This came to me via my sister...

I'M CONFUSED.

How can 2 million blacks get into Washington DC in sub zero temps in one day when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans at 85 degree weather with four days notice?

Inquiring minds want to know...

...Stupidity?

Hmmmmm, indeed.

Love the visual of the lazy rubik's cube. Precious.

Guess it's a matter of priorities. Survival isn't quite as exciting as an opportunity to kick it at a $170 millon party.

I miss New Orleans myself, I haven't been there in about 6 months..
It's my favorite vacation spot, I go there at least once a year.

Hey, how ya been?

(I posted this at another site which had this same rhetorical question... I put you in the same category of blogs I respect, please don't take offense)

They were being asked to leave everything behind in New Orleans - EVERYTHING. Evacuation is different than attending a party. I defy you to say that whites act differently. They don't. It is instead the URBAN DWELLER mindset - someone else will care for me; nothing bad will happen to me.

Sorry if I was harsh, but it upsets me when anyone I respect posts something that smacks of bigotry.

Cube,

Funny though biting point.

I can see where some might take offense, but the thing is the storm, Katrina, was a known quantity: It killed nine people here in Florida earlier and NOLA was declared a disaster two days before storm came ashore!

This is a city built 12 feet below sea level surrounded by walls built by the lowest bidder! They, All NEW ORLEANIANS, have a greater duty to evacuate and they have always known this.

I got this same post e-mailed to me as well. I think the biting quotient relates to the frustrations of those of us who recognize our responsibility to provide for ourselves versus those who refuse to. One demographic is correlated to this behavior more than any other. Just as rates of hypertension and incarceration provide a logical basis for inference among a population, the blame for the Katrina debacle has been place everywhere but where it most heavily belongs. Certainly more than the 1-5% of the blame the residents SOMETIMES get!

It is not racist to speak hard truths: to discuss facts. If they had been spoken earlier and more often, perhaps the behaviors that give rise to this extreme example of complacency followed by savage looting could be remedied.

Sadly, with a viscious and sophist media and hateful, as well as charitable, media consumers, trafficking in nothing other than condemnation of President Bush's response to the storm, a little biting humor is long overdue.

I put Bird Woman in the class of charitible, kind, souls who saw what we all saw and wished it could have been different.

It clearly could have; had the residents cared half as much to save themselves during Katrina as they did in electing President Santa Claus

it is far easier to answer why the sky is blue. so i will:

"The atmosphere is the mixture of gas molecules and other materials surrounding the earth. It is made mostly of the gases nitrogen (78%), and oxygen (21%). Argon gas and water (in the form of vapor, droplets and ice crystals) are the next most common things. There are also small amounts of other gases, plus many small solid particles, like dust, soot and ashes, pollen, and salt from the oceans.

The composition of the atmosphere varies, depending on your location, the weather, and many other things. There may be more water in the air after a rainstorm, or near the ocean. Volcanoes can put large amounts of dust particles high into the atmosphere. Pollution can add different gases or dust and soot.

The atmosphere is densest (thickest) at the bottom, near the Earth. It gradually thins out as you go higher and higher up. There is no sharp break between the atmosphere and space.

LIGHT WAVES

Light is a kind of energy that radiates, or travels, in waves. Many different kinds of energy travel in waves. For example, sound is a wave of vibrating air. Light is a wave of vibrating electric and magnetic fields. It is one small part of a larger range of vibrating electromagnetic fields. This range is called the electromagnetic spectrum.

Electromagnetic waves travel through space at 299,792 km/sec (186,282 miles/sec). This is called the speed of light."

there, chew on that for awhile.

The night before Katrina hit, I heard a news program of interviews with people of New Orleans. Everyone who was interviewed said they were not going to leave. Black or white, that is just stupid.

My sister also sent me this email. I like a good un-PC joke as much as (or maybe more than) the next guy, but this didn't even get me to crack a smile. It might have had it been just that - a lame joke. But instead, it's being presented as genuine logic, and too many people will say, heyyyyy, good point there.

For one thing, this way of thinking assumes that these are all the same "blacks." Don't you think maybe the ones who decided to party in DC had a little more disposable income than someone living in a shack in New Orleans?

Also, like birdwoman already said, it's comparing being forced to flee your home (which will probably be gone if/when you're able to return) to going on vacation, and there's no comparison.

Oh, lighten up people (you know who you are). This was funny in an observational humor type of way. Sheesh!

So if your home will probably be gone if / when you return, you should stay??????? Better you should stay and perish with the home? That is what happened but who would want that?

It was democrats then. Apparently it still is.

Gotcha!

Do I have the IQ of an Obama voter if it took me a few seconds to figure out the Rubix cube joke? :D

Also, hi mom.

QQ: President Bush gave the best reply to Katrina, unfortunately, it was too little, too late:

He said, "Don’t tell me the federal response was slow when there was 30,000 people pulled off roofs right after the storm passed."

I remember the school buses that could've been used to remove the NOLA citizens from harm's way were left to be flooded with water and ruined.

Super Awesome Cubelet #1: I know for a fact that you are way smarter than the average Obama voter.

Brooke: What?
