MIT Dean Toss

Marilee Jones, Dean of Admissions at MIT for 28 years, has admitted she "misrepresented" her credentials and has resigned.

Dean At M.I.T. Resigns, Ending A 28-Year Lie

Ms. Jones, 55, representing herself as "a scientist by training" at Albany Medical College, Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, had, in fact, no degrees from any of those places, or anywhere else, M.I.T. officials said.

This is just one reason why I dislike affirmative action hirings and quotas. This woman was hired in 1979 to lead to lead the recruitment efforts for women. The emphasis should be on hiring competent people, not filling a quota.

Contrary to popular belief, Dean Jones did not participate as the target in the Annual MIT Piano Toss in which a piano is tossed from the Baker House to mark the last date to drop classes for the spring term.

There must not be too many music majors at MIT.

m.j. & shover: I couldn't believe it when I read about it.

nanc: I wonder just who would hire her now & for what job?

Well I'm gob smacked!

No sympathy about what this woe begotten woman will do in the future though. She milked TWENTY EIGHT YEARS worth of salary and benefits for a job she should never have held.

I can't believe she pulled this off, but then, I can't believe no one sought to verify her qualifications either.

About her new book:

""Less Stress, More Success" addresses not only the pressure to be perfect but also a need to live with integrity.

"Holding integrity is sometimes very hard to do because the temptation may be to cheat or cut corners," it says. "But just remember that 'what goes around comes around,' meaning that life has a funny way of giving back what you put out."

Galling, isn't it.

nanc: hmmm, you might have a point.

caz: Galling is an understatement. I think this woman began to believe the lie. Sorta reminds me of AlGore actually believing in man-made global warming ;-)

I most totally agree!

This is why college degrees aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
