My Angel Dog

We have a special ornament on our Christmas tree this year... a German shepherd with wings and a halo.

As some of the readers of The BLOG know, we lost our beloved Dax in February and this will be our first Christmas without her.

Dax would go to great lengths to earn the words, "good girl", but she had a weakness for Christmas ornaments. We'd get home and often find a chewed up assortment. We learned to put the priceless ones near the top half and the expendable ones within her reach.

This year our ornaments hang safely on our Christmas tree, but I would gladly sacrifice a ton of them just to have our Dax back with us.

Sadly, we will have settle for knowing that angel Dax watches over us and waits for us on the Rainbow Bridge .

[The BLOG note: Hat tip to rgmb for sending me the Rainbow Bridge poem.]

Fashion Don't

A model wears a creation by Japanese fashion designer Junya Watanabe for his Fall-Winter 2008-2009 ready-to-wear collection presented in Paris.

Ready-to-wear?

I don't think so... more like ready-to-throw into the nearest trash receptacle.

I'd love to hear what this fashion victim, er model, really thinks of this ghastly outfit.

Yikes!

OK, today I'm happy to be a Bucs fans.

Cat Blog Friday

For this Cat Blog Friday...

... after the sad news from the Star Trek world this week, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight Lieutenant M'Ress, the feline relief Communication Officer of the USS Enterprise in The Animated Series who was voiced by Majel Barret Roddenberry.

It's Friday...

Political Dynasty

Records Show Caroline Kennedy Failed To Cast Her Vote Many Times Since 1988

Basically, Caroline has no qualifications for the office she's armtwisting, er, campaigning for, and now we learn that she has sat home during elections, including one involving the very seat she covets.

Oh, wait, she is a Kennedy.

That makes all the difference in the world.

Nevermind.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry 1932-2008

Majel Barrett Roddenberry Dies At 76

I was very saddened to read that actress Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry and affectionately known as the First Lady of Star Trek died of leukemia today.

She had the distinction of being the only actor who, in various roles, had been in every dramatic incarnation the Star Trek franchise, including live-action and animated versions, television and cinema.

She recently finished her role as the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in director J.J. Abrams' movie "Star Trek," which is due out in May, 2009, her family said.

RIP, Majel.

Blue Blog Blago Blowback!

I don't watch Keith Olbermann's maniacal show, but I do like to keep up with his lunatic antics so on occasion I check the #1 Keith Olbermann blog in the world...
OlbermannWatch.com

That's how I found the above video of actual blue blog rants upset with any questioning of Obama about the Blago scandal. The rants, compiled by John Gibson, are read in dramatic fashion and illuminate the deep derangement of the left.

Hitler Cake

From the stoopid parents department...

Cake Request For 3-year-old Hitler Namesake Denied

Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because "no one else in the world would have that name."

Yeah, right and that's why your other children are named JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell.

And why you previously asked for a swastika to be included in the cake decoration.

I'm going to quote one of Mr. Cube's favorite sayings, "You can tell me the sky is green, but I'm not going to believe it."

Big Moon & Stars

Look Up Tonight For A Spectacular Treat In The Sky: Biggest Full Moon For Years Enhanced By Shooting Stars

The biggest full moon of 2008 is tonight and it will interfere a little bit with the annual Geminid meteor shower which is expected to peak on Dec. 13th and 14th.

OK, so you see 20 meteors each hour instead of 100, that's still an acceptable amount in my book.

Tonight, and for the rest of the weekend, is a wonderful opportunity to get outside and look up.

Cat Blog Friday

For this Cat Blog Friday...

... 'tis the season for political fat cats from Chicago.

Happy Friday, everybody!

Slimy Pols

Chicago Tribune reporter, John Kass, follows the daily escapades of the dirty politicians in the cesspool that is Chicago politics.

And Kass is asking some very interesting questions...

Man Behind Curtain Is Wizard Of Rod, Rahm

The powerful state Sen. James DeLeo (D-IL) has connections to both Gov. Blagojevich (D-IL) and Congressman Rahm Emmanuel (D-IL). Think of a vacant Senate seat and a soon-to-be vacant House seat in Illinois as a package deal.

Basically, we've just begun to scratch at the surface of the sleaze.

Please pass the popcorn.

Blagojevich Questions Censored On Transition Website

Tampa Dirt Bags

Owner Of Dog Used As 'Target Practice' Still In Disbelief

"Tampa police say one of three teenagers gathered outside the Scott home pulled a gun and fired at Lady, a 9-month-old pit bull mix about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officer Adam York said a witness saw the boys casually walk down the street and shoot the dog".

What can you say about this kind of evil act on an innocent animal?

I have some choice words for these teens...

Blagojevich Who?

Did Obama lie about meeting the now radioactive Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich?

Questions Arise About The Obama/Blagojevich Relationship

Oh, no he din't!

But wait, according to this Tristates.com article, Obama met with
Governor Rod Blagojevich on the afternoon of Novemeber 5th in Chicago to discuss Obama's Senate seat.

Who Will Fill Obama's Senate Seat?

Oh, yes he did!

A better question is, why deny a meeting that is clearly on the record?

Does Obama think we're stupid?

Oh, yes he does.

UPDATE: The article from TriStates.com entitled "Who Will Fill Obama's Senate Seat" has been removed. The Ministry of Truth assures us that it was never there in the first place because Obama told us we...er, he had no contact with Governor Blagojevich.

U.S. Could Take Stakes In Big 3

In referencing the proposed bailout of the big three auto companies, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying:

"We call this the barbershop. Everybody's getting a haircut here, in terms of the conditions of the bill," she said, noting the likely impact on labor, bondholders, shareholders, car dealers, suppliers and executives. "The management itself has to take a big haircut on all of this."

Wouldn't you just love to see the House and the Congress members get haircuts too.

Medicare To Cover Prescription Handguns?

OK, I admit that I thought this was a joke when I first read it. How much of a deterrent is something that looks like an asthma inhaler?

And, it's only capable of shooting one 9mm bullet.

Hmmm, I hope grandma is a good shot.

Reid: We Won't Smell The Tourists Anymore

Thank goodness the saintly Senator Harry Reid won't have to suffer the malodorous stench of the huddled masses of visitors to the Capitol anymore. You know, the visitors who very likely voted his sorry ass into office.

You know, for an unqualified twit, Reid can be quite arrogant. God help me, I can't wait for the election that sends him packing.

Deadly Euphemisms

Two articles caught my eye referencing the Mumbai Atrocity and both involve political correctness on the part of Western commentators and their inability to report on the real nature of the Islamic enemy that the civilized world faces.

Mumbai: Deadly Media Euphemisms

The Mumbai Atrocity Is A Wake-up Call For A Frighteningly Unprepared World

The Mumbai atrocities can happen in any city in the world. And if our media sources can't even agree to call these monsters terrorists, then we have an even bigger battle ahead of us.

Conjunction Junction

Spectacular Conjunction

Tonight, a slender 10% crescent Moon will leap up from the horizon to join the super-bright Venus and Jupiter.

Tomorrow, Dec. 1st, will be the best night of all. The now-15% crescent Moon moves in closer to form an isosceles triangle with Venus and Jupiter as opposing vertices. The three brightest objects in the night sky will be gathered so tightly together, you can hide them all behind your thumb held at arm's length.

So get out there people, and look up.

My family is coming over for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and I may be too busy to post, so I'll take the time to wish all my blog buddies and their families a Happy Thanksgiving Day.

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Zodiac Revealed?

OPORD Analytical Founder Unmasks ' Zodiac' Killer

True crime buffs and fans of cryptography will enjoy the report; a long but fascinating read...

The Zodiac Killer

Conclusion: Gareth Penn is the Zodiac Killer.

UPDATE: From the Wikipedia entry:

Gareth S. Penn (1941- ) is an American author and amateur detective. Penn was among the first non-experts to focus effort on the famous Zodiac Killer case. He published a credible theory about the killer's motives, publicly accused a noted UC Berkeley public policy professor of the crimes, and labeled himself a one-time suspect.

Did he do it?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Copernicus ID'ed

The Kronenberg Foundation in Warsaw has created a computer-generated reconstruction of what astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus may have looked like on the basis of a skull discovered in the cathedral in Frombork, northern Poland.

Polish and Swedish researchers said Thursday they have identified the remains of Nicolaus Copernicus by comparing DNA from a skeleton they have found with that taken from hair retrieved from one of the 16th-century astronomer's books.

Woot!

This is cooler than cool.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me enthralled with science.
