Pretty Boy

An inhabitant of the planet Pyris VII, you ask?

No...

Meet Nelson: Parrot Chick Rejected By Parents

Nelson isn't much to look at now, but he is being cared for around the clock at the Bergzoo in Germany and he will grow up to be a beautiful Kea parrot.

Awwwwww.

I'm glad he is given a chance at life, but I have read that parents reject baby birds for a good reason.

Cube - Awwww - Nelson is soooo
cute.

Maybe you could start a Blog Parrot Friday.

And I loved the Sammy Davis, Jr. post.

I guess that the mother bird was too shocked by the sight of this chick, huh?

Jan: That's a very intriguing comment. Do you have any idea why the parents would reject their child?

Sue Hanes: I think Nelson is so ugly he's cute. I would never start a Parrot Blog Friday, but a Parrot Blog Wednesday... well, who knows ;-)

Leticia: I hope so too.

Always On Watch: I don't know much about baby birds, but I understand that they're all pretty ugly at hatching. I don't know why Nelson was rejected.

Cube - My response - to your response - to my response is -

Polly want a cracker?

Ya still have the best box blog around - Cube.

Oh my... "so ugly that he's cute!" is right. I'm glad that he is being nursed along.

I remember my mother telling me to leave chicks that fell from nests alone because once they smell like people have touched them, the parents will ignore them and leave them to die.

Secretly I have always thought she just didn't want me to touch baby birds.

Sue Hanes: "Polly want a cracker?"

I can't hear that line without thinking of the Maude episode when cranky Aunt Polly comes to visit and Maude's daughter asks her if she wants a cracker.

The cantakerous Aunt Polly was played to perfection by the character actress Judith Lowry.

That scene cracked me up. I have never forgotten it.

Silly Rabbit: My dad told me the same thing about birds, but it never stopped me from trying to rescue every injured animal I ran across.

Hm. Not to sound cruel, but there's usually a reason that the parents reject a infant animal.

I hope the little guy does well, nonetheless.

Cube - I must have missed that episode.

But I still remember Maude fondly.

Have a great weekend - Cube.
