Nature isn't always as benign as "Wild Kingdom" presents it.

I learned as a young man some of those beavers can get you into a lot of trouble.

Cube - Remind me to stay away from beavers.

I think I've seen the largest rodent (ahead of the beaver) in a zoo. Can't remember the name of it but it is big.

Cube - I googled the largest rodent and it is the capybara.
I didn't read about it to see if it bites!

Chatty Crone: Ugly and deadly.

Sue Hanes: I've seen capybaras at Busch Gardens. They are big rodents, but the worst attack I ever suffered from an animal was from our own male cat. He jumped me and even took a divot out of my arm. I had to get some shots, but I survived it as well as I survived a shark bite, but that's another story.

Wildlife creatures are not deemed as "wild" for no reason.

Cube - I would love to hear the shark bite story.

Always On Watch: Spot on observation. I guess too many people have grown up watching Disney movies.

Sue Hanes: The shark bite story sounds bigger than it really is. I love to play it up, but here goes...

We frequent a very unspoiled beach with no condos, etc., but with much wildlife, and I don't mean drunk college students ;-)

At this very pristine beach I was fishing in chest high water and noticed a bunch of baby shark swimming around me. Once I counted to 24 of them, I started to wonder where their mother was and I hightailed it back to shore.

On the day of the bite, I caught a baby shark, too small to keep, so we were going to set it free when my daughter asked to hold it. I let her and it began to writhe in her small hands. I went to help and the little bugger bit me on the finger.

That's my shark encounter story... Happily, the shark and I both survived.

Cube - A shark is a shark - in my book - and a bite from a baby shark counts as a shark bite.

Sounds as if you were lucky that Mama Shrark wasn't around.

I'm happy you survived.

Sue Hanes: A shark bite is a shark bite. That's exactly how I feel. The bite hurt and it bled and I will continue to play it up as my shark encounter story. I'm hoping I have no further encounters, but I do live in Florida... that's why I love my pool :-)
