Bugs: It's For Dinner
Masters Champions Dinner 2014: Adam Scott Serves Moreton Bay Bugs At Augusta National
Relax, Moreton Bay Bugs (Thenus orientalis) is just an Australian name for a flat-headed lobster found in the Indian and Pacific oceans.
If you remember your biology, the phylum Arthropoda -- an invertebrate animal having an exoskeleton (external skeleton), a segmented body, and jointed appendages -- includes insects, arachnids (spiders), and crustaceans.
Now pass the melted butter this way.

Sounds like we both took zoology. I took mine almost 50 years ago however.
Yep. I took invertebrate and vertebrate zoo, but not during the pioneer years ;-)
what I've always found funny is "Who the heck thought of eating something that looks like that?" How about an artichoke!?
"Hey, I think I'll EAT this!" :)
I love lobster; don't let me see what they look like with their clothes on...ugly! :-)
Z: Lol. What about oysters or clams? Same principle, except I prefer them with their clothes on.
I love lobster too and when I eat it I shut off the science part of my brain that would be shrieking that I'm eating a very large Arthropod.
I had always eaten lobster tails until I married into a New England family and my father-in-law sat next to me and taught me, step-by-step, how to eat a whole one.
I'll let you have that. I don't do lobster no matter what ocean it comes from.
Biology? I had to take it twice in high school. I just hated that class.
Have a fabulous day. ☺
Sandee: I'm sorry to hear about your hate affair with biology. You must've had a crappy teacher.
I have a degree in it, but I won't take it personally as long as you pass your share of the lobster to me ;-)
I think I would probably eat before attending. I have a low culinary curiosity level.
Jan: "In addition to the 'bugs', Scott served artichoke and arugula salad with grilled calamari; Australian Wagyu New York Strip with sautéed spinach, onion creamed mashed potatoes; and strawberry and passion fruit Pavlova, an Anzac biscuit and a vanilla sundae."
I'm pretty finicky about food myself, but I think I'd not eat all day just to have room for that menu. It seems pretty basic to me.
I selected crawfish (crawdads) as well as muscles with melted cheese off the Chinese buffet this week because Ron always loved them. I just had to try. YUK! But, please pass the lobster and shrimp.
Granny Annie: Lobster and shrimp... a woman after my own stomach ;-)
Never been a fan of crawfish or muscles either.
