Our Tax Dollars At Work

So Police Deputies aren't compelled to run into school buildings when there are active shooters and now I hear that they're not supposed to extract non-rent paying dead beats from their ill-chosen domiciles.

So what do we pay police officers to do?

Maybe school crossing guards?

I think that it depends on where you are. Obviously Broward County has a problem. AND Howard University is in Washington DC, a very progressive place. I think that you'd find a different reaction to both problems in different jurisdictions.

Uneven and unequal policing is very regional as are policing styles. I worked in a unit that prosecuted police officers for misconduct at Orange County CA District Attorney and those prosecutions were few and far between because corruption was almost unknown. It would have been very different if I'd been working in Chicago or Detroit or even neighboring Los Angeles (because there was a court order to reduce hiring standards that resulted in corruption issues).

Well, i can guarantee the police here engage active shooters, we’ve had the police funerals to prove it. It all depends on where you are.

George Takei has "Come Out" strongly against Gun Control. Does anyone really give a Rats Ass about that idiot George Takei who is a dumber than a rock, George Takei the guy who sexually molested other Men, an 80-year-old has-been with multiple chips on his shoulder who is an utter disgrace to the Asian race. Most Asians are intelligent, very self-disciplined people, a minority that I truly admire, but Sulu is a moronic, tacky, classless, graceless, charmless, egomaniacal embarrassment to honorable Asians...."Oh, my!" indeed

It's the liberal areas that are being run by others. Mayors, city councils, board of supervisors. That's the problem with some areas. They have taken over law enforcement. It's a shame. Whoever controls the purse strings controls the level of police service. Been there and felt that.

Have a fabulous day. ♥

You used "ill chosen domiciles" so I'm not sure what you mean...you just complaining cops can't kick out non-rent-paying folks? I think the renters are the 'ill chosen', not the domicile...right? Sorry, I didn't grasp the point of your post...

ANYWAY, Broward Country sounds like a freakin' MESS, doesn't it?

LL...do you LIVE in Orange County, CALIFORNIA? I didn't know that! I'm between Westwood and Santa Monica. (Bundy/Wilshire...but that's as detailed as I'll get :-))

Cube, we just don't equip our law enforcement and how can they feel supported...how about "catch and release?" that's what the idiots in California are doing? Why bother to CATCH?

Hopefully, it's just ME and things aren't as screwed up as I think!?? (but I don't think sooo!) XXX

Did they even call the cops? The stories I've seen don't mention the cops. I know if you're a landlord and serve an eviction notice because of non-payment, the cops will come by and forcibly remove. Least when I was renting in AZ in the 90's, that was the law.

Jan: In some areas, walking out into traffic with a neon yellow vest might be considered too dangerous.

LL: Law enforcement is one more thing that liberal/progressive rules ruin and, yes, bad policing is very much a regional problem.

Messymimi: Sadly, police protection is a fluid concept in some places.

The Welfare Queen: You mean Takei has come out strongly FOR gun control. Like you, I don't take cues for my choices in life from celebrities who are wholly ignorant of my situation.

Why does he always say, "Oh my?" Those were Captain Kirk's last words. I'd like to know who said those words first.

Sandee: It's a state of affairs when the liberal/progressive run anything.

Z: re: the phrase "ill-chosen domicile," I would say that I have nothing against dorms, but that it's an ill-chosen domicile for a person who's not a student and expects to live in it rent-free.

Broward County is a mess and unfortunately not the only one. So yes, you're not the only one that thinks things are screwed up.

I think "catch & release" is a stupid idea, but stupid ideas are a hallmark of liberal/progressive thought (oxymoron). The rules LEOs have to follow come from department heads and those rules don't always support good police tactics. I'm all for providing better leadership from the top down.

Kid: The articles I saw didn't mention police intervention. Back in the day, a landlord gave the requisite notice and then came in with the cops to force an eviction. Maybe things have changed and the rights of squatters trump those of the landlord.

Another question I have is how one can amass $96,000 of debt in two years. $46,000/year seems awfully steep for such a tiny place.

46 grand a year. Good Point. What the heck.

cube, WHY 'catch' if you're going to release? Maybe I'm missing something!!?

Z: To me, liberal logic is an oxymoron, but I think they're very capable of cheating in order to make themselves look good. The police broadcast their "catch" rates and suppress or under-report the "release" rates. It's a cynical ploy in much the same way Broward County police decriminalized teen crime in order to receive brownie points for bringing down the crime rate and receive increased funding.
