Beware of The BLOG...it creeps, it leaps, it glides & slides all over the place.
The Diamond Princess was the worst case scenario, according to Levitt. “If you compare the ship to a country—we are talking 250,000 people crowded into one square kilometer, which is horribly crowded. It is four times the crowding in Hong Kong. It is as if the entire Isaeli population was crammed into 30 square kilometers.” Furthermore, he said, the ship had a central air conditioning and heating system and a communal dining room. “Those are extremely comfortable conditions for the virus and still, only 20% were infected. It is a lot, but pretty similar to the infection rate of the common flu.”[Nobel laureate Michael Levitt, an American-British-Israeli biophysicist who teaches structural biology at Stanford University]
Seasonal Flu is more deadly because no one thinks about it. Covid has our attention. Same as Y2K. Not a big deal because it had our attention and we worked on it and killed it off. I was one of those software people killing it off.
Because they can't turn the flu into a reason to make us panic, that's why. If the media can't milk it, they won't bother with it.
It's impossible for me not to worry. it's in my nature. I guess I'll include some soap in my hand wringing. BTW, Disney has yet to officially cancel my Alaska cruise scheduled for May 18th. Not sure what the thinking is, since Canada has already announced no cruises from Vancouver until July 1 (and that's our port). I'm waiting them out.
Ed Boderenka: Thanks. I've never had the situation put into numbers like that. Numbers help me wrap my head around things. I never knew how crowded those cruise ships were.
Kid: You have a point about the sensationalism of Covid-19. I think it's more about crippling Trump's chances of re-election in Novemeber. Otherwise, the world wouldn't even know about Corvid-19.
Messymimi: I agree that there's a definite media agenda driving this KungFlu otherwise there wouldn't be so much hoo hah about everything and there would be plenty of toilet paper for everyone.
DaBlade: I'm sorry. I'd make other plans if I were you. My daughter has been planning her 30th birthday for months and now it's not looking good for a big party, and on top of that, her restaurant closed today. Lot's of people are hurting. You are not alone.
