My son has a GD named Clancy. Clancy is already 3 years old and I am so worried about my son losing this gentle giant. Wish they didn't have such short life spans. They are beautiful and sweet dogs.
Granny Annie: I've heard GDs have sweet dispositions, but had never heard how short-lived they were until today. I hope your son cherishes every day he has with Clancy.
Kid: My husband cleans up after our dog, Elke. She's a big German Shepherd and her poop would be bad enough to pick up in one piece, but our Elke has a habit of perambulating while she poops so she spreads it out over more than several yards. I can't imagine how it would be for a Great Dane.
Messymimi: Great Danes are known to be sweet, but after what I've heard today I'd be unwilling to own one because of their short lifespan. I hope Josh's other half grants him a long lifespan.
Our German Shepherd is a big girl and she's 10. Already she's on Rimadyl twice a day and a chondroitin supplement once a day. We hate to see how she labors goings up stairs and just getting around every day. It's a heartbreak I don't want to go through again.

I can imagine the Marmaduke moments. Sadly the GD lifespan is so short, it would break my heart to lose a dog that young.

He looks like a lot of fun, but yes a lot of work :)
Even the half GDs like Josh at Ms. S's house are gentle and if not quite giants, at least very large.
Jan: Yes, Marmaduke moments came to mind and so did Clifford even though he wasn't a Great Dane. I had no idea they were short-lived.

The bigger the dog, the shorter the life. They don't stay long enough anyway.
Have a terrific day. ☺
Sandee: No, they never do.
Wowed!!!
