Stephen Hillenburg 1961 - 2018

You may not know Mr. Hillenburg's face, but odds are you know his creation, the optimistic cartoon sponge, Spongebob Squarepants. My girls loved Spongebob and the denizens of Bikini Bottom and, frankly, so did I.

🎶 The best time to wear a striped sweater is... [fill in the blank] ❓❓❓

RIP Stephen. Thanks for the laughs.

I love the picture with all the little SBS masks behind him.

Comedy Plus: I never knew the man, but I found his cartoon to be sweet and optimistic, yet not dumbed down in a squishy way like some kiddy shows can be. Spongebob SquarePants had a funny edge to it, much like Bugs Bunny had in the old days. There were some shenanigans going on with those old cartoons, too, but totally above the heads of children. I saw it as silly, harmless fun.

Jan: I enjoyed the show with my daughters for years, but I never ever saw the man's face until he died. When my girls were little, I watched their shows and I read their books because I wanted to know what they were into... that's how I got caught up with Harry Potter's world. I never had any concern with Barney episodes.

My kids enjoyed Spongebob, Sweetie’s favorite character was Mr. Krabs.

As with you all, I watched the cartoon with my kids. They liked i and so did I. I'm not much of an expert on anything beyond the delicious crabby paddy.

Messymimi: What's not to love about Mr. Krabbs? Just looking at him made me crack up 😉

LL: Isn't that a Krabby patty? The formula for them is a huge secret... just ask Plankton about it.
