The liberal argument is that the government is your friend; that the police state should be pervasive enough that should you sneeze, a friendly, armed, person will be in your door (because who has need of a lock in a police state - everyone is safe) and there to assist you.
The traditional American argument was that behavior such as that led to the "shot heard round the world", and that (as with Switzerland) an armed society is a polite society.
Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, Gaza, Syria, all are examples of socialist/communist states where everyone is equal. Just look at Iran and Saudi Arabia, the two pillars of Islam, and how everyone is safe and respected there. I don't know whether an Islamic Republic is worse than a communist state. It's all about power isn't it.
Slaves don't own firearms to protect themselves, do they? They are "protected".
LL: Good examples of "government protection," but I'd rather protect myself. Cuba was a wonderful country until socialism led to communism. Venezuela should've known better, but it fell for the socialism turned communism infection. How many countries need to to fail before communism gets obliterated as the cancer that it is?
Many are trying to do this here. It's all in the name of power, not safety. They can be the ruling elite forever. The rest of us will be left to do their bidding. Whatever their bidding might be.
How do these little gun control geniuses think they will defend themselves against home invasion by a couple thugs with even just baseball bats or knives ? It happens now when the vermin don't even know if their victim is armed or not. Imagine when they can be pretty sure their victim is not armed.

Kid: In my world, we would all be encouraged to train for a carry permit and have a weapon at hand. I think that a burglar/rapist would think twice about coming into anyone's house under those circumstances.
