Family Circus

I tried every which way to post the pic of the old Family Circus cartoon featuring the mother and father where the mom says, " When the children are grown and leave home, we two will be all we have left." The dad replies, "We two were all we had to start with."

I had cut out this comic from the paper and put it on our office bulletin board and it hung there for years. I failed miserably when I tried to post a photo of it on the blog... I blame the dreaded Microsoft 10. It isn't progress when it doesn't work better. Isn't that the whole idea behind progress?

Anyway, back to my reality, Friday night was the first night my husband and I spent without both of our girls under our roof. It wasn't long before daughter number #1 came home to leave her kitten in our care because she was going to the beach and daughter #2 arrived from Gainesville around 3 p.m. to have stuffed grape leaves for dinner.

Mom was happy to have her babies back home.

Say What?

5 Mistakes Hillary Clinton Made In Her Latest e-mail Press Conference

Many are calling it mistake #6... the orange pantsuit.

Oh wait, is orange the new black?

"I doubt we´ll ever see HRC in prison, but we can still dream. There´s a prison with her name on it:"

Easy breezy, right?

Yvonne Craig 1937 - 2015

TV's Batgirl Yvonne Craig Dies At 78

Yvonne Craig originated the role of Batgirl, and her portrayal is still the iconic view of the character for most fans.

Craig also played Marta, the green Orion Slave Girl in the third season episode of "Star Trek," "Whom Gods Destroy."

R.I.P. Ms. Craig.

Things That Drive Me Batty

It's worse at the post office because you don't have a supermarket cart to jam between you and the person behind you.

BARUKAFARA

Google said: "Your search - barukafara - did not match any image results."

Of course it wouldn't because it was a word my baby girl made up. She knew her letters long before she knew her words, but she still managed to arrange them in very interesting ways.

I'm thinking of this today because our baby moved away to grad school so it's been a bittersweet weekend for us. Goodbyes are never easy.

That's not why I bring up this crazy word, but because we were moving my daughter's stuff out, I ran across a small daily calendar in which I had written the crazy, silly stuff my children said. I picked up this tiny book and I opened it right to the page where I had noted that my daughter had written the word 'barukafara'.

I couldn't find an a google image for barukafara... so I chose a sparkling cube.

Throw Back Thursday

Fidel Castro To US: You Owe Us Millions

An old post from August 1, 2006 still holds today...

The Only Good Fidel Castro Is A Dead Fidel Castro

He was a terrorist long before the young whippersnappers from the middle east popped into our radar screen.

And the bastard is still kicking with his fake North Korean intestine.

*sigh*

All Of My Spiders Have Been Named Charlotte

Thousands Of Spiders Come Together In Dallas Suburb To Make Giant Web From Your Nightmares

No, I'm not visiting Rowlett, Texas anytime soon...but I don't want to come down too harshly on spiders either. I've had very interesting interactions with spiders.

I had one living in my mailbox and she was very good about scurrying out of the way when I went to get the mail. Well, on this fateful day I noticed that Charlotte wasn't in the mailbox and I really hoped that nothing bad had happened to her. My attention soon turned to the mail and I was shocked to see Charlotte on my hand!

Yikes!

My husband watched the ensuing spider freak out. He told my daughters that their mom had just had a nervous breakdown at the mailbox.

Yeah, that was Charlotte's last day on earth.

LLAP Tribute

William Shatner asked for selfies of people doing the Vulcan greeting... live long and prosper.

Six thousand people responded and their selfies were put together to form the photo above.

What an awesome tribute to Leonard Nimoy.

My Trekkie heart is full.

Fools And Dunces

I very much enjoyed a book entitled, "A Confederancy Of Dunces." In it, foolishness was harmless fun. Not so much in this...

Yeah, well it beats Ohio.

Pop Up Pools

Thanks to our spell of relentless rain, pools are popping up all over our area. This is just one example:

Flooding Causes 32,000-gallon Pool In Oldsmar, Florida To Pop Loose From Ground

Did you know that a pool could float if there's enough water underneath it?

That's why the majority of concrete (gunnite) pools are built with a hydrostatic relief valve.

Rain, rain, go away... and don't come back until we dry up.

Burqa Blue

For this Throw Back Thursday:

I originally posted the Burqa Band video in March 2007 and it seemed an apt re-post right about now...

France Is Furious Over Gisele Bundchen's Burqa Disguise

As if Tom Brady doesn't have enough on his plate already.

Sheesh.

Media Prestidigitation

First, I am not against hunters or hunting.

Second, I am appalled at the death of this magnificent lion, especially since there is no sport at all involved during what looks like a canned hunt.

That said, I am shocked that the death and organ harvesting of unborn human babies at the hands of the federally funded Planned Parenthood program is being soft-pedaled by the media.

Marco Rubio Causes Twitter Firestorm By Comparing Cecil The Lion's Death To Planned Parenthood Controversy

Have our moral compasses gone so awry that we, as a society, can't see that both cases elicit moral outrage, one more than the other?

Organic Schmorganic?

This eye-opening article from Forbes is well worth reading:

The Colossal Hoax Of Organic Agriculture

I'm too thrifty to pay more for less, but many people are wasting money on an ideal that doesn't exist.
