Pop Up Pools

Thanks to our spell of relentless rain, pools are popping up all over our area. This is just one example:

Flooding Causes 32,000-gallon Pool In Oldsmar, Florida To Pop Loose From Ground

Did you know that a pool could float if there's enough water underneath it?

That's why the majority of concrete (gunnite) pools are built with a hydrostatic relief valve.

Rain, rain, go away... and don't come back until we dry up.

I had no idea that could happen but it isn't a worry out here

Goodness knows, we all have our crosses to bear. If only I could ship all this excess rain to your parts. Unfortunately the world doesn't work that way.

I had no idea either. Yikes. Poor guy. It's and act of God so I'm sure the insurance company isn't going to help. What a shame.

Around here there's no water. The fountains are turned off this year. Many pools are empty. There's not water because you're getting all of it.

Have a fabulous day. ☺

Pools are popping all over in our area. I'm not sure how or why, but now is definitely not the time to drain your pool to repair defects. Draining it while there's so much water in the water table just makes it lighter and more likely to float. Just one more thing to lose sleep over.

We have had a lot of flooding also but I never heard of any swimming pools popping out of the ground. Whew!

Cube - I hope your pool is ok. Pools are popping out all over.

Isn't Florida 98% water anyway? Or is that the human body? I always get the two confused.

Z: Lol. Esther Williams poltergeist... that line cracks me up. Our first pool was an Esther Williams model but there were no unruly ghosts involved.

Granny Annie: It happens. When we had our pool built, the contractor explained why we needed a hydrostatic pressure valve. In the last 11 days, we've gotten 11 and 1/2 inches of rain... too much rain underneath your pool and it will float like a boat. The pool I posted about contained 32,000 gallons of water. My pool contains 17,000 gallons.

Sue Hanes: Our pool is fine. I laughed out loud at your reiterative (is that a word?) comment that pools were popping out all over. Surely not where you live. P.S. don't call me Shirley ;)

of course you need a drain, then when it rains your pool won't overflow like that
