Beware of The BLOG...it creeps, it leaps, it glides & slides all over the place.
The 24 hour news cycle demands minor crisis reporting in addition to the major crisis reporting (is Canada still mad at us). Every summer people who go in the ocean are stung by jellyfish. It's what jellyfish do. A very few are bitten by sharks or are stung by stingrays. It happens. The option is not to go into the ocean - but we love the ocean. What ever happened to the volcano in Hawaii? It became a dog bites man story instead of man bites dog.
I don't go into the ocean for this reason. I've enough issues in my old age to invite stuff that I don't need to deal with. Have a fabulous day. ♥
Another reason to stay on the shore
This is why we keep vinegar with us at the beach, although we’ve never had to use it.
Been there done that, and not really interested in the salt life at this point. If I translate that window sticker correctly. Maybe some metal detector stuff on the beach someday.I've read the jellyfish that are about the size of a fingernail are much more problematic. LL, I'm still seeing volcano stuff. The popular fresh water lake in the old lava has boiled away and Hawaii is still getting bigger. No telling when the thing stops.
I'm with Sandee and Jan! :-)
Sorry about your daughter's Jellyfish problems! I remember the sting well. Usually not until August warmer water here. When the White sharks hang out too! We are fed by the Gulf Stream current on the south shore. I haven't gone swimming yet this year. I'll settle for a toe dip soon! Getting toasty finally. Happy Summer!
jellyfish are like the democrats of the ocean. They don't serve any purpose other than to ruin your day. Which begs the question, will vinegar work on them?
Eh. It's getting tougher to get to the ocean these days. Maybe for the better.I'm staying out of the sun as much as I can. That thing will kill you.
LL: If there is no crisis, the 24 hour news cycle will manufacture one. They're even naming tropical storms now. Jellyfish stings are part of being in the ocean and are a lot less painful than stingrays. I avoid stingrays like the plague. The volcano was big news, but after a while, it was the same old story and they moved on to Trump again. Unless something big happens, Trump is the default position.
Sandee: You love being ON the ocean not IN the ocean. I gotcha.
Jan: One reason why I have a pool. No critter is going to sneak up on me in there.
Messymimi: Vinegar is definitely a requirement during jellyfish season.
Z: Lol. We can all sit poolside together.
Snaggle Tooth: The jellyfish sting was nothing major. The burn passes quickly. Sting rays are way worse and we have a season for them too.
DaBlade: Well, at the very least vinegar will make them very stinky and we'll know they're coming from a mile away ;)
Ed Bonderenka: I used to tan in my youth, but nowadays I'm so pale that I glow in the dark. Sunscreen.
Kid: I would think the little jellies are problematic because you can't avoid them if you don't see them. The one time I was stung it was by one about the size of a slice of bread. Had I been paying attention, I could've gotten out of its way. I'll always love the ocean and the salt life. I'm just a lot more aware of my surroundings than I used to be.
