Don't feel bad. Last year an impatient hoard trampled a seasonal worker to death as he tried to open the doors for the early morning "Black Friday" opening in Valley Stream, NY.
It is definitely worse to shop between Thanksgiving and Christmas eve. But as a person who has been on the other side of the counter as well, it's just as hellish to be a cashier/sales associate during that time.

It won't be long before families spend their summer vacations camping out at Best Buy.
Retail shopping between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve is my idea of hell.
I don't like shopping at any time of year, but it is worse between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I should qualify the above statement... I do enjoy shopping for books and office supplies. Every thing else is a chore.
cube - I was shopping at our local department store yesterday and at the checkout a sign read: Doors open 3 am the day after Thanksgiving.
I thought, ok, right. But my daughters will probably get up early and go.
Sue: 3 am? That's unbelievable. I do my level best every year to make sure I don't need anything that day so I can avoid shopping at all costs.

I'd say camping, though sad, is fairly benign.
Annoying Joe: I'm not condemning these people to a gulag. They are free to do what they wish in the same way I am free to ridicule their actions.
It's all in good fun until someone loses an eye or, worse, their life. Yikes!
Decades ago, I used to shop on Black Friday. No more! I can't stand the mobs -- especially the maniacs in the parking lots.
There's talk that Walmart is starting at midnight on Thanksgiving.
I found this whole thing bizarre.
I wouldn't go out on BFriday if the store was giving away a gold brick.
In fact, I will do a major grocery shop Wed. to make sure I DON'T have to go out for that whole weekend!

Free iPads to the "First Family of Black Friday"... Sheesh. I promise I will be the very last in line. Any prize for that?
