Many Purple Fingers

Young and old, able-bodied and infirm, Iraqis streamed to the polls for the third time in 11 months on Thursday, this time to elect a four-year parliament.

While not as novel as the first post-Saddam Hussein election in January, participation was more widespread. Sunni Arabs, who boycotted the earlier poll for an interim assembly, flocked to vote this time, determined not to miss out on power again.

Democracy, Iraqi style.

This is a BIG deal!! Let's see what the media does with the story. I'm sure they will find some ways to make it be a negative.

It's a huge deal. I already heard Joe Biden say that they government they elect may be harder to deal with. I have read accounts saying that the voter turnout was high because the Iraqis want us out.

The MSM will try to put a bad spin on news that is good for America, but it isn't as easy to fool us as it used to be.

There is no bad news in this story about the vote in Iraq. The msm must be frustrated over that positivity.

Yes, they are frustrated. They should concentrate on doing journalism and not pushing an agenda. They'd get more respect.

Err, the MSM are getting some respect from somewhere? I thought it was below zero.

Huge turn out for their voting, good to see. As for the result - hey, look at other democracies, the winner often gets knocked (USA, Australia, classic examples). It won't be any different for Iraq, and that's okay. Just wish the MSM would stop acting as if the outcome of voting is a BAD thing - they only like democracy when it goes the way they want it to go, which always strikes me as being decidely undemocratic. Dictatorship anyone? Hmm.

Totally awesome.

Good point, Caz. The MSM is only on board when the good news benefits the left. Had a fair Iraqi election happened during the Clinton administration (it wouldn't have happened in a million years, so we have to look at the Bosnia example when commiting American troops to war was a good thing), it would've been touted as a Nobel Prize winning event! Alas, poor President Bush wouldn't get a nomination for dog catcher as far as the left is concerned.
